    Join us in the Clayground to make a gorgeous Sand Dollar!

    July 10, 2pm-4pm: form sand dollar

    July 24, 2pm-4pm: add bubble glaze to bisque-fired sand dollar

    First class will be the creation of your individual sand dollar which will be the approximate size of a dinner plate on June 12. The second class will be two weeks later after your sand dollar has dried and been kiln fired to learn the easy and fun technique of bubble glazing!

    Functional Pottery Foundations is a free 6-week Mentor Monday series designed to help members build confidence with handbuilding while creating beautiful, functional pottery. Each week features one functional project and a new set of transferable pottery skills.

    Bring your own clay each week, and if you have your own basic pottery tools, please bring them. A limited number of studio tool kits are available to share.

    No registration is required—just come ready to learn! Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Lesson 2 - Succulent Planter with Attached Saucer 

    Create a beautiful, functional succulent planter with an attached saucer while learning the core techniques of curved slab construction. The techniques introduced in this lesson become the foundation for planters, utensil crocks, brush holders, pencil cups, and many other cylindrical slab-built pottery projects.

    Take your slab-building skills to the next level by learning how to plan cutout designs, create negative space, and build sturdy forms that safely glow with candlelight.

    Build, glaze, and take home your own shark-themed charcuterie board!

    2-Class Experience

    • July 26, 2pm-4pm: form your charcuterie board
    • August 9, 2pm-4pm: glaze your piece
    • Pickup approximately one week later

    First class will be the creation of your charcuterie board.  Choose between 3 designs or create your own. The second class will be two weeks later after your board has dried and been kiln fired to apply glaze.  Check back in mid-August to pick up your finished Shark Week creation!

    Lesson 4 - Coastal Wave Wall Plaque 

    Create a coastal-inspired wall plaque while learning the fundamentals of relief decoration and layered slab construction. The techniques introduced in this lesson can be used to create decorative plaques, wall art, signs, and sculptural pottery with depth and movement.

    Create a beautiful, functional slab-built mug by bringing together the slab-building skills you've learned throughout the series. This lesson focuses on refining cylinder construction, reinforcing seams, creating a comfortable handle, and adding simple surface texture to produce a mug you'll enjoy using every day.

    Lesson 6 - Lidded Trinket Box

    Create a functional lidded trinket box while bringing together the skills you've developed throughout the Functional Pottery Foundations series. You'll learn to measure for a properly fitting lid, create an interior ledge (gallery) to support the lid, add a decorative knob, and complete a beautiful keepsake box you'll be proud to use or give as a gift.
